Robert is one of the UK’s leading solo bagpipers. In recent years, he has travelled and performed as a soloist with many of Britain’s and Europe’s finest orchestras, including: The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The London Philharmonic Orchestra, and The BBC Symphony Orchestra.

In 2022, Robert performed as a soloist with The London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle at The Barbican Centre, London. This was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.

He has also completed a successful tour of China with The BBC Concert Orchestra. Robert performed as a soloist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra as part of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Robert has recently appeared with The RigaSinfonietta, Latvia, The Polska Filharmonia Baltycka, Poland, The Aalborg Symfoniorkester, Denmark and The Oulu Symphony Orchestra, Finland. In 2018 Robert performed with The Hong Kong Philharmonic under the baton of Maestro Yu Long. This was part of a series for four concerts at Hong Kong’s prestigious Cultural Centre. In the same year he performed as a soloist at The BBC Folk Prom, broadcast on national television from The Royal Albert Hall.

Robert has also featured as the lone piper at “BBC Proms in the Park” (Hyde Park, London), in front of an audience of 40,000. Robert has appeared on BBC TV’s Strictly Come Dancing accompanying Anton Du Beke and Judy Murray in a live television broadcast. Robert made a seminal recording of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ (Master of the Queen’s Music) “An Orkney Wedding with Sunrise” with The Scottish Chamber Orchestra.

This piece was subsequently broadcast live from The Royal Albert Hall on BBC1 as part of The BBC Proms. He became the first bagpiper to perform with The Galician Philharmonic in Spain. Robert has performed alongside Russell Watson at The Royal Albert Hall as part of Her Majesty’s Jubilee celebrations. He accompanied Lesley Garratt on her number one album “A North Country Lass”.

Robert has toured as a soloist with The BBC Symphony Orchestra to China, Singapore and Malaysia. He is fortunate enough to be the only bagpiper to perform in Beijing’s Forbidden City Concert Hall. He performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall and also toured with The London Symphonietta to Armenia. He has performed as a soloist with The BBC Concert Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Orchestra of Opera North and the orchestra of English National Ballet.
